I'm newly managing Astronote the next great producer of our generation. I woud never claim that lightly, especially when producers like The Labtechs and Black Milk are family.
A couple months ago Astronote came to me and told me he had a group of Biggie remixes he wanted me to put out. My first thought was, "Why? Nobody wants to here any more Biggie mixes." But of course I just respond with "Cool, let me hear them when you're done." After I heard the initial 10 mixes I was so blown away that I reached to Kweli to see if he wanted to get involved, and he immediately responded saying he was down. I started grinding to get some more feature verses and exclusives on the CD. We ended up getting Talib Kweli, Buff1, Guilty Simpson and Bahamadia on board and the final product has been quoted as being one of the hardest mixtapes in months. Recently, the A-Side Worldwide family released a mixtape titled We're Winning that they have been passing out at shows. Well, they took the mixtape and transformed it into a podcast haha, and it's ready for download via their web site. Here's what they got to say about it.
The first podcast from A-Side Worldwide is now available. It was initially a mix CD distributed free on to all of the attendees of our Holiday party in Ann Arbor. Thanks to VTech Phones for helping make it possible. We got lots of great feedback on it, so we've turned it into a podcast so everyone can get their hands on it. ROUND 2: Friday January 23rd. Jason "Brownstudy" Hogans is throwing an event at the Trowbridge House Of Coffee (THC) in Hamtramck (formerly the Lush Lounge) and he let me get on the gig. Brownstudy will be performing as Medium Parnell, along with special performances from leftfield hip-hop emcee Dial81 and techno/house producer/DJ legend Anthony "Shake" Shakir. Flyer posted above.

Detroit producer D.L. Jones along with DJ 2nd Nature just posted a remix to "Rock The Boat" from the late great Aaliyah to celebrate what would have been her 30th birthday. The remix puts a funky two step ballroom flavor to the song thats quite dope. Check it out.

A couple weeks ago while listening to Minced Meat Radio on CJAM I came across something very interesting that was play on there. It was a track from The Great Mundane & DJ Slouch's EP titled The Wires Remix EP. The fellow who calls himself The Great Mundane (b. Jeffrey Acciaioli) was born and raised in Farmington, Michigan and has since made his exodus to places such as Chicago and now Portland. Citing influences from classical, jazz, bossa nova, hip-hop, and electronica, The Wires Remix EP heavily layered with lo-fi synths mixed with killer drums and catchy head' boppin melodies. Go to his site and download the 4 track EP for free.

Boomkat describes it as "Samiyam takes the original into wonky downbeat territory on his mix, turning in a off kilter killer, full of melting synths and hazy stoned rhythms to beautifully complement Ms Blingh's vox, but sounding even better on the instrumental version" The release is available via Ramp Records on 10" vinyl, MP3, and FLAC formats.

New from the Detroit-based Motech Records (who we previously brought you the DJ 3000 Galatic Caravan album) is new digital release from Japan's DJ Compufunk, a single for the tracks "Orbit" and "Ishin-Denshin". According to the Motech web site:

Grammy Nominated artist Janelle Monae will be performing January 16th at Ann Arbor's Michigan Theatre (603 E. Liberty) for University Of Michigan's 23rd Annual MLK Symposium, hosted by F.O.K.U.S. (Fighting Obstacles Knowing Ultimate Success), a student arts organization based in Ann Arbor and New York. After Fall of '07's Guilty Simpson featured track "Psycho", the french collective known as D3CCPT are back with their new single "We Keep It On" featuring Black Milk. Detroit's reigning Queen Of Hip Hop MonicaBlaire is currently working on material for a new album along with an album titled Back To The Future consisting of remakes of old school soul jams. Recently posted on her MySpace page is her rendition of Zapp's "Computer Love" featuring Maestro on the voice-box and fellow Detroit vocalist MJ Robinson. Her remake is described as "computer-less" version of "Computer Love".

You might remember her as Vanessa in the lunch truck scene in 8 Mile trading rhymes with Eminem and Xzibit. Miz Korona has been a staple of the Detroit hip hop scene for some time now. I sill remember the first time I met her she was doing one of her first performances on the the hip hop stage at the first Detroit Electronic Music Festival on Hart Plaza. Locals know Detroit classics from her like "Last Woman Standing" and "Give It Up". Right now, she is working on a couple projects including a solo album titled The Injection, which we have a sample from for you today. The joint "Cookin'" is produced by Marvwon and available for free download for everybody. More joints to follow.
