While the NCAA Final Four was in town, I played at yet another Blackbyrd Revue show at the Jazz Cafe in Detroit in the Music Hall with Allan Barnes & The Gorilla Funk Mob spinning Jazz records. We had a nice intimate crowd that night. The band sounded nice. There was this guy drunk as hell there celebrating his birthday, dancing all around the place singing along with every song. Hilarious. Below is audio of my first set from the nice. Enjoy.

The former cool kid of our Detroit hip hop scene and now Detroit's ambassador via Los Angeles DJ House Shoes is set to release The King James Version, his tribute to the greatest to ever do it, the late geat legend J. Dilla. House Shoes takes us on a journey through the records that James Yancey used to craft the classics we all fell in love with. If you thought Dilla's beat were nothing special and easy to create, you'll second guess that idea and realize the genius of his musical process while listening to The King James Version. House Shoes has offered the first chapter of the mix for free download to give you a taste.

And here's thoughts from artists hat were close to Dilla regarding The King James Version:
T3 (Slum Village) - "This king james shit is nutz. no homo."
Amir -"Mad people always talk about how much they love music but my man houseshoes is THE only one I know that consistently holds it down! His knowledge and skill cannot be questioned...basically he is the MAN! I am just the man siitin' next to the MAN!"
Rhettmatic - "The King James Version is a must for all you hardcore Dilla fans or for Sample Heads. Shoes is the only person besides J.Rocc who can put something together like this.....listening to this will make your head crack! Don't sleep!"
J-Rocc - "Houseshoes seems to have it all....life isn't fair sometime. After listening to this you'll ask yourself how did Dilla do it. All Hail King James (both of em)"
Black Milk - "House Shoes just showed us how much of a genius dilla was even more with this cd and how crazy dillas record collection was im just now finding some of these samples...dilla was light years ahead of us..."
As being the flagship of the Dilla movement online for almost 8 years now, Rensoul.com is offering online ordering for The King James Version. Its that time again. Every Memorial Day weekend of this decade, Detroit hosts the Detroit Electronic Music Festival, now known as Movement. Taking place May 23-25 at Hart Plaza in Downtown Detroit, heavy hitters in all genres of electronic such as Afrika Bambaataa (pictured), Bad Boy Bill, Bassnectar, Derrick May, among others bang out the Motor City for the weekend. While straight up hip-hop has seem to be non-existent outside of Bambaataa, experimental hip-hop artists such as Flying Lotus, RJD2, and Z-Trip will hit the stage at Movement.
“Every year our goal is to build upon the success of the previous year by bringing the best available local, national and international talent to Detroit in order to create a weekend experience unlike any
other in the World,” said Jason Huvaere, president of Paxahau and organizers of the festival. “Our team spends a lot of time selecting artist and DJs that will appeal to electronic music enthusiasts. This year there will be a major Detroit presence at the festival as well as some performers that rarely set foot on stage in the United States.”
To open up festivities this year ravestyle, The Prodigy (of "Firestarter" and "Smack My Bitch Up" fame) will play at The Fillmore on Friday, May 22. Chuck Flask, Paxahau Resident DJ and Evan Evolution will be performing in the State Bar. The doors open at 7 p.m. Early bird tickets for this all ages show
are available starting at $20 by visiting www.livenation.com. VIP tickets are available.

It's finally here. After years of asking this dude from the album is dropping, Finale's A Pipe Dream And A Promise is available today via Interdependent Media. Last Saturday, we had a DOPE album release party here in Detroit with me, DJ Sicari, and House Shoes spinning along with a gang of awesome performances. The buzz from the show and the album has been heavy. It was also an honor to be witness to the finishing of this album, so please go out and support some real Detroit hip hop.
